# Book Seed Marketing

## Core Lens

Seed marketing is temporary manual work that gets a useful book into the hands of enough target readers for word of mouth to begin. It does not replace recommendability; it activates it.

Use this skill after the book is at least mostly working for readers. If the promise, manuscript, or reader experience is still unproven, use `book-toc-lab`, `reader-experience-edit`, or `beta-reader-feedback` first.

## Reference Routing

| Need | Read |
|------|------|
| Seed marketing concepts and channel model | `references/core/knowledge.md` |
| Channel selection and operating rules | `references/core/rules.md` |
| Example plans and channel matches | `references/core/examples.md` |
| Fast planning checklist | `references/core/checklist.md` |
| Choose a seed channel | `workflows/choose-seed-channel.md` |
| Plan writing in public | `workflows/plan-writing-in-public.md` |

## Workflow

### 1. Confirm The Book Is Seedable

Check that:

- Target readers want the promise.
- Beta readers or early readers receive value.
- The book is specific enough to recommend.
- The author can name where target readers gather.

If these are weak, fix the book before scaling traffic.

### 2. Choose A Seed Strategy

Evaluate four common options:

1. Digital book tour through podcasts and online events.
2. Amazon PPC ads.
3. Event giveaways and bulk sales.
4. Writing in public and small author platform building.

Choose by author assets, reader concentration, budget, timeline, and emotional fit. One good channel can be enough.

### 3. Turn Manuscript Work Into Marketing

Repurpose work already being done:

- Drafts and excerpts.
- Deleted sections.
- Research notes and references.
- Reader/beta insights.
- Process, progress, and milestone stories.

### 4. Capture Interest

Convert casual attention into reachable audience:

- Email list.
- Simple "email me if interested" flow.
- Multi-tier signup for beta readers vs finished-book updates.
- Lead magnet only when it is genuinely useful and cheap to maintain.

### 5. Return A Practical Plan

Return:

1. Seed-readiness diagnosis.
2. Recommended seed channel or channel mix.
3. Rationale and trade-offs.
4. 2-6 week action plan.
5. Content and email-capture plan when relevant.
6. Metrics to watch.

## Quality Bar

Keep advice grounded in target readers and author constraints. Do not recommend heavy ongoing marketing when a temporary seed push or easier channel would work.
