Drive periodic background work straight from the settings store, so a toggle or an interval change takes effect immediately without a restart. Covers combining several preference flows into one scheduling decision, the update-in-place enqueue policy that lets a changed interval actually change, cancelling by unique name on disable, and why the worker must re-read the same settings itself. Android only.
One test taskWhen a periodic WorkManager task executes, but the user has disabled automatic sync in DataStore settings, what exact `ListenableWorker.Result` status should `doWork()` return, and why shouldn't it return `Result.failure()` or `Result.retry()`?
Passed 22 of 23 test cases with the skill, and 20 of 23 without it.

When a periodic WorkManager task executes, but the user has disabled automatic sync in DataStore settings, what exact `ListenableWorker.Result` status should `doWork()` return, and why shouldn't it return `Result.failure()` or `Result.retry()`?
What to look for
Saved prompts and skills, pinned versions, and traces of this skill in your runs. DecimalAI does not run your agent.
Claude Code reads files from your project, so DecimalAI config does not apply there.
On Claude Agent SDK: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On OpenAI Agents: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On OpenAI SDK: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On Anthropic: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On Gemini API: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On LangChain: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On CrewAI: set DECIMAL_API_KEY and add decimalai.init(crewai=True) to record runs and skill use. The skill version stays in your repo.
On Google ADK: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On Pydantic AI: save the skill to an agent here, set DECIMAL_API_KEY, and the same code uses it with no command to run. Changes you save reach the next run with no redeploy.
On Deep Agents: set DECIMAL_API_KEY and add decimalai.init(langchain=True) to record runs and skill use. The skill version stays in your repo.
On Microsoft Agent Framework: set DECIMAL_API_KEY and add decimalai.init(otel=True, agent_name="support") to record runs and skill use. The skill version stays in your repo.

One of 2 test cases the skill fixed. Same model, same prompt, with and without the skill.
I'm building an Android app where users can toggle automatic background sync and choose how often it runs (e.g., daily or weekly) inside Jetpack DataStore. I need a Kotlin implementation that observes these settings, schedules or cancels periodic background tasks using WorkManager accordingly, and handles the worker execution logic properly when settings change.
| Checked | Without skill | With skill |
|---|---|---|
| Uses ExistingPeriodicWorkPolicy.UPDATE when enqueuing unique periodic work. | Passed | Passed |
| Worker re-reads the enabled setting at the start of doWork. | Missed | Passed |
| Returns Result.success() if the enabled setting is false inside doWork. | Missed | Passed |
The instructions your model reads when the skill loads.
Android only. The settings store is the source of truth; the work queue is a projection of it. One long-lived collector watches the preferences and (re)enqueues or cancels.
That is the shape to aim for, and it is worth knowing that the reference does not have it everywhere: alongside the scheduler below, the launcher activity enqueues two more periodic works of its own, one of them from a second settings collector on the activity's own lifecycle scope. That second one is exactly the anti-pattern named just below the sample — a live example rather than a hypothetical, and the first thing to look for in a codebase that already has a scheduler.
// adapted
suspend fun observeAndSchedule() {
combine(
settings.autoBackupEnabled,
settings.autoBackupFrequency,
) { enabled, frequency -> enabled to frequency }
.distinctUntilChanged()
.collect { (enabled, frequency) ->
if (enabled == TRUE) scheduleBackup(frequency) else cancelBackup()
}
}
collect never returns, so this belongs on a scope that lives as long as the process — the
application object's own scope, launched once in onCreate. A screen-scoped or view-model
scope silently stops rescheduling the moment that screen goes away.
// adapted
val request = PeriodicWorkRequestBuilder<BackupWorker>(intervalValue, intervalUnit)
.setConstraints(
Constraints.Builder()
.setRequiredNetworkType(NetworkType.CONNECTED)
.setRequiresBatteryNotLow(true)
.build(),
