When defining an ideal customer profile for a mobile app, what specific dimension dictates the user's willingness to pay, and how is that dimension quantified?

From app launch to scaled growth: ICP definition, positioning, ASO, user acquisition, and a sustainable growth framework.
No marketing decision is made before defining who you are trying to win.
An ICP for a mobile application is defined across the following dimensions. The age range and device preference of the target audience establish the tone and technical complexity of the product. The usage context describes the environment in which the app is opened — during a commute, in a workplace without a desktop computer, or during leisure time. Pain point urgency quantifies how much time or money the user currently spends on the problem. Where this figure is low, willingness to pay will be low as well.
An ICP definition passes validation when at least twelve of the first twenty paying users match the profile, when users in this segment are already using competing applications, and when keywords targeting this audience show meaningful search volume in the App Store or Google Play.
Step 1 — List real alternatives. What would users do if this app did not exist? Possibilities include another app, a website, a manual workaround, or doing nothing at all.
Step 2 — Identify differentiating features. Which capabilities are genuinely different from those alternatives — difficult or impossible to copy in the short term?
Step 3 — Translate to value. What does each differentiator concretely deliver for the user? Avoid internal language such as "40% faster synchronisation"; instead, say "Have your files ready before the meeting in three taps."
Step 4 — Identify who cares most. Who values this most, and are they the person making the purchase decision?
