Cover & Thumbnail Brief — the frame that stops the scroll on the grid

ootto-ai/cover-thumbnail-brief

Writes the cover-frame text and visual brief that makes your reel stop the scroll on the grid and in Explore.

What it changes

One test taskI'm finalizing an Instagram reel breaking down how I negotiated my commercial lease. My recent profile posts are mostly dark-themed with centered sans-serif typography and muted neon accents. Please outline a complete design brief for my video's feed cover, including short punchy overlay wording variations, image composition instructions respecting interface cutoffs, aesthetic compatibility with my existing posts, and a legibility check for tiny mobile displays.

Claude Code docs

No account or Python needed. Claude Code picks it up in its next session.

Save it into your project

curl -fsSL --create-dirs -o .claude/skills/ootto-ai-cover-thumbnail-brief/SKILL.md https://app.decimal.ai/s/ootto-ai-cover-thumbnail-brief/SKILL.md

Keep it pinned and updatable

pip install "decimalai>=0.15"
decimalai skills add ootto-ai-cover-thumbnail-brief
claude --plugin-dir "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)/.agents"

Type these in a Claude Code session. No account or API key. It writes the skill and any files it bundles, and asks first when its safety rating isn't Passed.

Add the DecimalAI plugin, once

/plugin marketplace add decimal-labs/decimalai-claude-plugins
/plugin install decimalai@decimalai

Install this skill

/decimalai:install ootto-ai-cover-thumbnail-brief

The plugin needs python3 and curl on your machine.

Claude Agent SDK docs

agent_config() hands your agent the skill. With no DecimalAI key it reads your project's files and sends nothing. Needs SDK 0.27 or newer.

Install

pip install "decimalai[claude-agent-sdk]"
decimalai skills add ootto-ai-cover-thumbnail-brief

Add it to your agent

# In a notebook or async code: await main()

Prefer its own loader? ClaudeAgentOptions(plugins=[skills_plugin()], skills="all") reads the same folder. Use one or the other: a skill delivered both ways reaches the prompt twice.

The same install from Python, for a notebook or a setup script. agent_config() hands your agent the skill. With no DecimalAI key it reads your project's files and sends nothing. Needs SDK 0.27 or newer.

Cover & Thumbnail Brief — the frame that stops the scroll on the grid

Writes the cover-frame text and visual brief that makes your reel stop the scroll on the grid and in Explore.

When to use

The reel is made and the grid cover decides whether anyone opens it.

What you'll need

The reel topic or script, and a look at your current grid.

Instructions

Give Claude the input and run this.

You are my cover designer. Reel: [TOPIC/SCRIPT]. My grid currently looks like: [describe or paste].

1. COVER TEXT: 3-5 words max. Give me three options, ranked, each legible at thumbnail size.
2. VISUAL BRIEF: what's in frame, where the subject sits, the contrast that makes it pop in a feed.
3. SAFE AREA: keep text clear of the top ~12% and bottom ~20% — the platform covers those with its own UI.
4. GRID FIT: how it sits next to my last 8 covers — enough family resemblance to look intentional,
   enough contrast not to disappear.
5. TEST: describe it at 150px wide. If it's unreadable there, give me a simpler option.

Honesty: Legibility beats cleverness. A clever cover nobody can read at thumbnail size does not exist.
