Going Viral — the strategy, not just the hook

ootto-ai/going-viral

The strategy layer for making short-form video actually go viral — pick the goal, manufacture the emotion that drives it, then build the hook + funnel around it.

What it changes

One test taskShould my short video open with a smooth 2-second visual logo fade-in and a bold title screen before showing the software demo?

Claude Code docs

No account or Python needed. Claude Code picks it up in its next session.

Save it into your project

curl -fsSL --create-dirs -o .claude/skills/ootto-ai-going-viral/SKILL.md https://app.decimal.ai/s/ootto-ai-going-viral/SKILL.md

Keep it pinned and updatable

pip install "decimalai>=0.15"
decimalai skills add ootto-ai-going-viral
claude --plugin-dir "$(git rev-parse --show-toplevel)/.agents"

Type these in a Claude Code session. No account or API key. It writes the skill and any files it bundles, and asks first when its safety rating isn't Passed.

Add the DecimalAI plugin, once

/plugin marketplace add decimal-labs/decimalai-claude-plugins
/plugin install decimalai@decimalai

Install this skill

/decimalai:install ootto-ai-going-viral

The plugin needs python3 and curl on your machine.

Claude Agent SDK docs

agent_config() hands your agent the skill. With no DecimalAI key it reads your project's files and sends nothing. Needs SDK 0.27 or newer.

Install

pip install "decimalai[claude-agent-sdk]"
decimalai skills add ootto-ai-going-viral

Add it to your agent

import asyncio

Prefer its own loader? ClaudeAgentOptions(plugins=[skills_plugin()], skills="all") reads the same folder. Use one or the other: a skill delivered both ways reaches the prompt twice.

The same install from Python, for a notebook or a setup script. agent_config() hands your agent the skill. With no DecimalAI key it reads your project's files and sends nothing. Needs SDK 0.27 or newer.

Going Viral — the strategy, not just the hook

Most "go viral" advice is tactics with no spine. This is the spine: virality is engineered, not lucky. Pick ONE goal → manufacture the emotion that drives it → build the hook + funnel around it. The reel manufactures the feeling; the caption/DM delivers the value.

Distilled from 160+ analysed viral reels + the research consensus (Berger & Milkman: sharing is driven by high arousal, not positivity; ~68% of people share to signal who they are; saves = a promise to future-self; open loops must stay open past the 7–15s checkpoint).

When to use

The user has an idea (or a flopping account) and wants reach/saves/shares/followers/leads — not just a better opening line. (For only the first 1–3 seconds, use viral-hook-writer. To run the whole pipeline, use content-factory.)

Step 1 — Pick ONE goal (it dictates everything)

GOAL	Emotion to trigger	The mechanic	How to build it
SAVE	relief + fear-of-forgetting	a finite numbered system + "future-you will need this"	a list/steps that assembles on one frame → "save so you don't lose it"; put the depth in the caption
SHARE	awe / indignation / status	meta self-proving · "you're being ripped off" · "almost nobody knows"	open on the finished result then reveal how · "$5K agency → free" · scarcity + "send this to someone still doing it the hard way"
FOLLOW	FOMO ("don't fall behind") + aspiration	anti-falling-behind framing + result-first proof + a consistent brand	show the gap (manual you vs automated them), a real climbing number, a recognizable look every post
LEAD	greed + terminal curiosity	a named free deliverable withheld behind a keyword	show the value, withhold the thing → "comment WORD" → instant honest DM

Pick the goal before scripting. Optimize for identity signal, not raw value — a share has to make the sender look smart/early/right. High-arousal beats positive: awe, anger, FOMO over calm tips.

Step 2 — The hook (the first ~1.5s decide everything)

Frame 0 IS the hook. The biggest element is already on screen AND moving — a count-up number, a finished artifact, a UI caught mid-action. It owns ≥40% of the frame and is legible on mute (70–85% watch sound-off). No fade-from-black, no slow logo build, no title card.
Order: motion → lock → claim. Let the moving element run ~1s, lock it, then spring the one-line claim. The claim lands ~1.2–1.6s — never at 0s (no payoff yet), never at 3s+ (too late).
Open a gap, not a fact. "The one setting that doubled my reach" — never "here are some reach tips."
Rotate the angle every post (contrarian / result-first / meta-self-proving / POV / numbered). The meta "this was made by AI" self-proving angle is the strongest when it's true — the post proves its own claim. The "N things nobody uses" listicle fatigues fastest; don't default to it.

Step 3 — Hold them (after the hook)
